How to Make People Believe You're British - Part 1

England has a great, fascinating culture, fantastic accents, and their own Queen. Who wouldn't want to pretend they're British? In fact, why haven't we all gotten around to this before? If you want to fool everyone around you for a day or for the rest of your life, here's where to get started.

Learn how to speak with a British accent.
There is a great guide already on wikiHow about learning to speak with a believable fake British accent, but you probably already knew that. There are loads to choose from and most of them don't sound like the Queen.
  • Many of them are very hard to impersonate, so try to pick one that comes easy to you. Do some research on location and accent. The further north, the harsher and more similar to the Scottish accent sounds. The further south and closer to London is where you find the most recognizable accents, like cockney (which is not common, and Mary Poppins is cited as the worst example).
  • Accents, both English, Scots and Welsh, also change remarkably from East to West and from towns to cities. Remember, not everyone talks like they're out of a British romantic comedy.
